What I've been doing lately...

Nothing. Nothing. And more nothing.

Hang on, I bought some new socks. And I went to the zoo. And I saw Ross Noble.

Ok, so I'm a liar. That shouldn't be a surprise by now.

All of that exciting stuff (yes, even the sock buying!) happened on Thursday. Sam was getting her car serviced, so we met in the city really early (about 9:30am - slightly early for me, super early for Sam), and went to the zoo.

Because we there so early, it was pretty cool for the first hour - no screaming school kids. I've been looking through the photos I took (all 318 of them - is that a little excessive?), and there seems to be a theme to some of them - Sam meets a cow, Sam meets a goat, Sam meets a rabbit, Sam meets Steve Irwin. Maybe I'll post a few if I get them uploaded before I finish with this.

Hey look, photos! )

Then, other stuff happened, most of which I can't recall right now. Ross Noble talked about hilarious, nonsensical things, and then we went home. The End.

Except it's not, because I don't feel like ending there.

Here's a question: is it so strange to buy a David Bowie CD at the same time as a NoFX CD? You'd think I'd be used to the odd looks I get when I buy strange combinations of things, or borrow them from the library, but I still find it weird. So what if I like completely unrelated things? I'd get pretty bored if I always listened to the same sort of music, or read the same sort of books. Plus, I think the ladies at the library are snobby literary types, so they would probably look down on me no matter what I borrow. Well, I don't care. I like having unpredictable reading habits!

More questions!

Is the plural of Mongoose:
a) Mongooses
b) Mongeese?

According to some dictionary, it's both.

What is the collective noun for a group of Lemurs?

Well, this is boring. It's "group". Surely you can come up with something more interesting than that?

Anyway, I love collective nouns. I'm also amused by this:

Venery can refer to the following:

* The practice or sport of hunting game animals, or the wild animals so hunted.
* The practice or pursuit of sexual pleasure, or the indulgence of sexual desire.

See also

* Collective noun – terms of venery (words for groups of animals)
* Sexual intercourse

Words are fun!

OK, so Big Day Out!

Sam slept in, so we didn't leave until about 12:30, which was probably a good thing, cos we would have been even more buggered by the end of the day if we had gone earlier.

We had to park ages away, so by the time we walked to the showgrounds, got through all the bag checks and checked out the merch tent (and had a stop off at the mist tent so that Sam didn't faint), we made it to the main stages in time to see Cog. Sadly, the Catfish Guy isn't a catfish anymore, but they were still good. One of the security guards liked Sam, cos she liked being sprayed with the hoses, and I saw a guy who looked exactly like the new Doctor, except for his hair.....

Then we watched Bullet for My Valentine (many pictures to follow!), then we ran away before Sneaky Sound System started. We checked out some of the other stages (which were inside, with air-conditioning!), and had Vodka slushies. Then it was back to the main stage to see Serj Tankian (& the Flying Cunts of Chaos). They had nice top hats. :D

Then The Living End were on! They were brilliant, as usual, and we took lots of photos, then we went back to one of the pavilions for a rest, and to laugh at the people at the Silent Disco. Then I dragged Sam along to see Fantomas, which she wasn't impressed about, but I enjoyed. They were loony and strange. Then it was off to the Green Stage to see The Dropkick Murphys, where there was much dancing and green t-shirts.

So, time for photos. )

In summary:
Big Day Out = Fun Fun Fun!
Having to get up at 7:30 the next morning to work 8 hours = not fun. But, as far as work goes, it wasn't a bad day, Except every time I picked up a paper canister, I remembered how much my shoulders hurt! :D

How the hell did I forget that I have Regurgitators' Best Of??? I was bummed the other day cos I don't have Kong Foo Sing and Blubber Boy, but hey look, there they are!

Anyway, back to the point. Main details of what happened yesterday can be found on [info]samelthecamel  's blog, she always posts before I do.

I love Regurgitator! They played My Friend Robot! And Grinspoon were awesome (as usual!). silverchair were pretty good, mostly cos they played old songs. And Sam: Yeah, the moustache is horrible, but his shorts were brilliant!

Ooo, I saw Anti-Flag and Tom Morello (RATM) watching Arcade Fire! Arcade Fire were pretty good, but they killed my brain with their glockenspeil or whatever it was. And all the high-pitched bits in Bjork.... Arrrgh! My ears are exploding!

So we survived the first two songs of Rage, Testify and Bulls On Parade. But then Sam got strangled by her bag, so we got hauled out while they were playing People Of The Sun (which is the cause of my sore shoulders). I could have lasted a bit longer, but I didn't wanna stay there on my own. We're not hardcore like Vindie! :P

And I didn't take any videos this year, except for one of Sam dancing around like a silly bugger, but it's dark so you can't see her, and you can hear Guerilla Radio in the background....

Hey, for once I'm posting more pics than Sam! (I think? I didn't exactly count...)
